Dr Squatch vs Bare Bar: What’s Actually Better?

Dr Squatch vs Bare Bar: What’s Actually Better?

Dr Squatch vs Bare Bar: What’s Actually Better?

If you’ve been looking for a proper natural soap, you’ve probably seen Dr Squatch everywhere.

Big ads, bold branding, loads of hype.

And to be fair — they’ve done a great job getting people off cheap shower gel and onto soap bars again.

But once you actually start using them… the question becomes:

👉 are they actually the best option?

Especially if you’re in the UK.

Why We Even Made Bare Bar

We didn’t start Bare Bar to “compete” with anyone.

We started it because most soap bars — including the big-name ones — just didn’t quite hit the mark.

The main issues?

  • skin feeling dry or tight after washing
  • scents that don’t last
  • bars that disappear way too quickly
  • long shipping times (especially from the US)

So we thought… why not just make a better one?

The Biggest Difference You’ll Notice

This is the one that comes up again and again.

👉 how your skin feels after using it

A lot of soap bars clean well — but they leave your skin feeling a bit stripped.

That slightly dry, “tight” feeling.

Bare Bar was built to avoid that completely.

What’s Actually In It (And Why It Matters)

We keep things simple and intentional.

Our base is made from:

  • olive oil
  • coconut oil
  • cocoa butter
  • castor oil
  • natural glycerin (we don’t strip it out)

Scented using essential oils — not synthetic overload.

Nothing fancy for the sake of it. Just ingredients that actually perform on skin.

Handmade in the UK (Not Shipped Across the World)

Everything we do is based here in the UK.

  • made in Lancashire
  • packaged here
  • shipped from here

No long supply chains, no months in transit.

That alone makes a difference — both in quality and how quickly you get your order.

The Bit Most Brands Skip: Curing

This is something most people don’t realise.

After we make a batch of soap, we leave it to cure for 5 weeks.

That does two big things:

  • makes the bar harder (so it lasts longer)
  • improves how it performs in the shower

👉 You’re not getting a uncured soft bar — you’re getting a solid finished one.

What People Say After Switching

We could talk about this all day, but it’s easier to show you what customers actually say.

A lot of them have used Dr Squatch before.

Here’s the pattern we keep seeing:

  • “doesn’t dry my skin out like before”
  • “lasts way longer than I expected”
  • “smells better and actually lingers”
  • “better value overall”

One customer put it pretty bluntly:

“Used to use Dr Squatch but never again… smells better, costs less and shipping is way better.”

Another said:

“Didn’t leave my skin dried out like Dr Squatch and the scent actually lasted.”

That’s exactly what we built it for.

See for yourself our verified TrustPilot reviews here.

Scent: Not Overpowering, Just Right

Some brands go heavy on fragrance.

Sometimes too heavy.

We’ve gone the other way — clean, natural scents that actually smell like what they’re meant to, without being over the top.

You’ll notice it — but it won’t punch you in the face.

So… Which One Should You Go For?

If you like big branding, novelty drops and US-style marketing…

👉 Dr Squatch will probably suit you.

But if you want:

  • something that’s better on your skin
  • a bar that actually lasts
  • properly made in the UK
  • backed by real customer results

👉 then Bare Bar is what we built for.

If You’re in the UK, It’s a No-Brainer

Most people don’t think about this until after they’ve ordered.

But shipping, freshness and supply chain actually matter.

Bare Bar is made here, shipped here, and built for UK customers.

Simple as that.

FAQ

What is the best soap for men?

The best soap for men is one that cleans effectively without drying or irritating the skin such as our full range of Bare Bar natural soaps. Our natural soap bars are made with plant oils such as coconut oil, olive oil and cocoa butter to help remove dirt and excess oil while keeping the skin balanced and hydrated. Many men prefer our natural soap bars because we never use harsh detergents and synthetic ingredients commonly found in conventional soaps.

Are natural soap bars better for your skin?

Bare Bar natural soap bars are gentler on the skin because we make them using plant-based oils and natural ingredients. Unlike many commercial soaps that contain synthetic detergents, Bare Bar natural soap retains glycerin, a natural moisturiser that helps keep skin soft and hydrated. This makes Bare Bar natural soap bars a the best option for people with sensitive or dry skin.

What is the difference between bar soap and body wash?

Bar soap and body wash both cleanse the skin true, but they are made completely differently. Our natural soap bars are created through a process called saponification, using oils and lye to produce soap and natural glycerin. Body wash often contains synthetic detergents, preservatives and plastic packaging. Many people choose our soap bars because they are simpler, longer lasting and more environmentally friendly, as well as being excellent for your skin.

Why are soap bars better for the environment?

Bare Bar natural soap bars are environmentally friendly because we only use sustainably sourced plastic-free packaging. Body wash is usually sold in plastic bottles, which rarely get properly recycled. Soap bars also last longer and often require less water during manufacturing.

How long does a soap bar last?

The lifespan of Bare Bar soap bars depends on how often they are used and how they are stored during use. On average, our customers say they get between 3-6 weeks use showering every day, again this can vary by using accessories such as our Soap Deck & Bare Grip, which can both extend the life of your Bare Bars by keeping them dry inbetween use.

Can natural soap bars be used on the face and body?

Bare Bar natural soap bars are gentle enough to be used on both the face and body. Because they are made with nourishing oils and fewer harsh ingredients, they can cleanse effectively without stripping the skin. However, people with very sensitive facial skin may prefer our unscented natural soap bar Raw Oats & Maple. It is unscented and therefore extremely gentle on sensitive skin, made with Oat Milk, it is extremely nourishing for facial skin.

Are soap bars hygienic?

Soap bars are hygienic and safe to use when stored properly. Studies have shown that bacteria does not transfer from soap bars during normal washing. Keeping the soap on a draining soap dish allows it to dry between uses, which helps maintain cleanliness.

Why choose Bare Bar?

Not only are you supporting our small independent business, all of our products are made right here in the U.K and we're proving us Brits can make the best soap on the market!
